Takashi Murakami’s First NFT

Finally, entering the NFT cosmos by launching his digital work via OpenSea. He was inspired by a former auction led by Winkleman, thus developing a craft in the digital space. Murakami created a piece utilizing a new approach in his digital art. 

Murakami collaborated with the former director of Sonic Unleashed and the Hedgehog Engine, Yoshihisa Hashimoto. They published Murakami’s trademark flowers in a pixel themed 24 x 24 size in 108 varieties “eliciting nostalgia for Famicom (The Nintendo Entertainment System).” 

According to Murakami, “They were watching some fireworks display within the game while talking with their school friends, whom they could no longer meet in person, through Zoom, admiring how beautiful it was…I saw the reality of the shifting values when I realized that these children could discern beauty within a virtual world.”
