Maurer’s Floating Table

Maurer’s Floating Table

A curious, unexpected floating object in the Salone del Mobile was presented by a British Company, Established & Sons. Manufacturing the original design of Ingo Maurer back in 2012, the floating table shows a rectangular/round table with four solid black wooden chairs fixed onto a white Formica tabletop structure, created in a standard diameter of 1.3 meters, which are also available in customizable sizes.

Ingo Maurer devised a hidden mechanism beneath the table that allows the chairs to be pulled out so users can sit down. Rectangular and circular surfaces are available.
The wooden table was first conceived in 2012 and has since been put into production with Established & Sons. The furniture was shown at Ventura Lambrate in Milan last month.

“This innovative piece is the first production table from the widely celebrated designer, Ingo Maurer. On first inspection, it appears to be archetypal wooden kitchen table and chairs but on closer viewing the table is revealed as ‘floating’; without any legs…”

This piece was inspired by Maurer’s interest in ethereal substances, magic, and weightlessness. It encourages users to look critically into simple daily objects and the elements of surprise.
