Picasso Drawing Unlocked

Conservators from the Art Institute of Chicago discovered a drawing beneath Picasso’s famous abstract painting entitled: Still Life. Using an X-ray and infrared technology, they found an illustration of a pitcher, mug, a rectangular object–from the SN Applied Sciences Journal report.

Picasso painted on top of the drawing, thus creating a new piece over the composition–using a thick layer of white hue which was quite unusual for the artist to do. Back then, the painting was given to Picasso’s friend, Gertrude Stein. It was created during his Cubist period as he experimented with three-dimensional objects and several geometric shapes. For more information about the discovery, the full report is available at SN Applied Sciences
